Where Determination Meets Education: Sujata’s Path to a Brighter Future

Nestled in the hills of Konjyosome Rural Municipality, Ward No. 1, Shree Bagbhairab Secondary School serves as a vital educational institution to provide quality education for its younger generation of the local community. Ms. Sujita Ghyaba is one amongst the youngest students (5-year-old) enrolled in school, whose story embodies the determination and resilience of children seeking quality education in remote Nepal. Her journey highlights the challenges the children encounter in rural areas and a hope that inspires the transformative power of education.

Sujata lives in Thosnekhola, a serene village where simplicity and hard work define daily life. Her family of five includes her father, Babulal, who works abroad to support their family, and her mother, Samjhana, who manages the household while raising three daughters. Each morning, Sujata and her sisters, Sujina and Sophia, embark on one and half hour walk to Shree Bhagbhairab school, navigating rugged trails with remarkable determination. Despite occasionally skipping breakfast to reach school on time, Sujata’s enthusiasm for learning remains unwavering.
Sujata has found more than just an education in the Early Childhood Development (ECD) center at her school. She has discovered a space that nurtures her curiosity and confidence. Under the guidance of facilitators Laxmi Lama and Rebati Ghalan, Sujata and her 29 classmates begin each day with “circle time,” where they share stories and reflect on their lives. This practice not only builds emotional resilience but also helps facilitators understand the needs of each child. Additionally, a small but impactful tradition of sharing snacks brought from home fosters a sense of belonging, teaching children the values of empathy and community.

Sujata’s transformation since joining the ECD program is remarkable. Once shy and hesitant, she now eagerly participates in activities, confidently identifies and writes alphabets, and expresses herself through creative exercises. Her story is a testament to the dedication of her facilitators, who see early education as a foundation for lifelong confidence and learning. Sujata’s journey encapsulates the profound impact of accessible, nurturing education, offering hope and inspiration to countless children in rural Nepal.
