Since the establishment of NEW Initiative in 2005, it has been focusing its programs and activities under 4 thematic areas, identified 4E.
1. Environment
NEW Initiative is committed in preserving and restoring our environment for current and future generations. Through different programs and activities like tree plantation, solid waste management initiatives and advocacy for sustainable practices, we aim to mitigate the impacts of climate change and protect biodiversity.
Our efforts under this thematic area align with SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), as we work towards creating a more sustainable and resilient planet.
2. Education
Education is a fundamental human right and a powerful tool for social and economic empowerment. Our team at NEW Initiative focuses on improving access to quality education for all, from ECD to university level and in non-formal education, especially in underserved communities. We provide scholarships, support schools, and offer vocational training programs to equip individuals with the skills they need to thrive. Besides these, we are also focusing on educating communities on menstrual health.
Our work contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by promoting inclusive and equitable education opportunities for everyone.
Our partnership with Moving Mountains E.V. from Germany, Since 2019 has been instrumental in our grassroots efforts in this theme. With its support, our team has been able to assist schools, students, and teachers across various project sites.
For more information, please refer to the “Rural Educational Aid for Developing Children – READ Child” project in the “Our Projects” section for details.
3. Energy
Access to clean and affordable energy is crucial for sustainable development. We advocate for and implement projects promoting clean and alternative energy sources such as matribhumi-improved cooking stoves, solar, wind, and hydroelectric power.
By reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting renewable energy technologies, we contribute to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), while also improving energy access and reducing environmental degradation.
4. Entrepreneurship
Our Team is committed to Fostering Entrepreneurship within communities, enabling them to initiate, manage, and scaleup business based on local natural resources, all while safeguarding these invaluable assets. Entrepreneurship development involves combining innovation, skills, and the development of new products, services, or concepts that fulfill market needs and generate value for specific target groups.
Under this theme, we support women’s groups from Marginalized communities. Through capacity-building workshops, microfinance initiatives facilitated by cooperatives, and community-driven projects, we empower marginalized cohorts to advocate for their rights and enhanced their socio-economic welfare. At the core of our mission lies the aspiration to empower communities, driving our belief in cultivating inclusive development where every individual can engage and contribute to decisions shaping their lives.
Our endeavors are in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 (No Poverty), 5 (Gender Equality), and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), as we actively promote social inclusion, gender parity, and community resilience.
