Bright Beginnings: READ Child-III Transforming Gupteshwor’s ECD Classroom

Shree Gupteshwor Secondary School, located in Ward 4 of Konjyosome Rural Municipality, has made significant strides in its Early Childhood Development (ECD) center. Thanks to the third phase of the READ Child Project for the transformation. Prior to this intervention, the ECD classrooms faced several challenges, including disorganized environments, shortage of educational materials, and untrained facilitators. Facilitator, Ms. Man Kumari Tamang often had to rely on makeshift teaching tools and repetitive exercises, which were not effective in promoting young children’s cognitive and social development. The limited resources, exacerbated by the region’s economic difficulties, left children with few opportunities for the early stimulation crucial for their long-term growth.

Execution of various activities through READ Child-III Project brought transformative changes to the ECD classroom by introducing child-friendly furniture, vibrant learning materials, and organized learning corners that prioritize cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development. Facilitators underwent extensive training in child-centered teaching methods, equipping them to design engaging and interactive lessons. This transition from traditional teaching to activity-based learning has transformed the classroom into an exciting environment where children can explore, play, and cultivate essential skills for lifelong success. The new approach has enhanced classroom dynamics and encouraged creativity, teamwork, and independence among the children.

In addition to providing resources, the project has empowered both the school and the local community, transforming Gupteshwor Secondary School into a model for Early Childhood Development (ECD) in the region. Parents and facilitators have expressed pride in the improvements, highlighting significant changes in children’s behavior and learning outcomes. By tackling the challenges of early education in rural areas, the READ Child Project is bridging gaps and establishing a strong foundation for the next generation of learners in Konjyosome Rural Municipality.

This change in the ECD of Gupteshwor school has only been possible through the financial assistance of Moving Mountains e.V. German.
