Transforming Early Learning: How READ Child-III is Changing Early Education at Shree Bagbhairav ECD

Shree Bagbhairav Secondary School, established in 2017 B.S. (1960 AD), serves as a cornerstone of education in Konjyosome Rural Municipality. One among 17 government funded public schools in the region, it currently provides education for 210 students in the community. As the school also operates Early Childhood Development (ECD) class, 30 young learners are also enrolled in the school. Despite its crucial role, the school has faced significant challenges related to infrastructure, management, and resources, hindering its ability to create an optimal learning environment, especially for its youngest students. Acknowledging the importance of early childhood education, the READ Child Project included Shree Bagbhairav Secondary School during the execution of its second phase i.e. 2022, focusing to support and enhancing the operation of ECD.

With the project emphasizing the creation of a child-friendly environment, improving classroom appearance, and providing essential resources for early learning through the project, this partnership marked as a significant transformation of ECD in school. The school’s ECD classroom has undergone essential changes to provide a safe, welcoming space where children can play, explore and learn.

Through READ Child-III, the transformation of the classroom continued by adding cushions for comfort, distributing school bags, introducing learning corners, and creating a designated sleeping area for young children. As the collaboration progressed into the third phase, efforts were intensified to tackle both immediate and long-term challenges. These improvements have not only enhanced the physical and organizational aspects of the classroom, but also enriched the overall learning experience. Through this ongoing support, Shree Bagbhairav Secondary School is building a stronger foundation for its youngest learners, fostering an environment that encourages growth, curiosity, and engagement.

According to Ms. Laxmi Lama, ECD-Facilitator at Shree Bagbhairav Secondary School, “The changes make the children more comfortable and willing to participate. They feel at home and ready to learn.” This transformation has been made possible through the support of the READ Child Project, which has provided essential resources and training to enhance the early childhood education program.

For the ECD Facilitators, this project offered ECD Facilitation training which helped them to improve their skills in using teaching materials, hands-on techniques, equipping them with a broader range of tools and strategies to foster children’s cognitive and social skills. This training has empowered facilitators to create a more stimulating and responsive classroom environment, establishing a strong foundation for children’s future learning.

Since joining the READ Child Project, Shree Bagbhairav Secondary School has seen a positive shift in its ECD program. Teachers are more equipped, and children are more engaged in their learning. The project’s comprehensive approach to improving infrastructure, providing learning materials, and empowering teachers has created a sustainable and supportive environment for early childhood education. The schools Head Teacher, Mr. Yognidhi Timilsina remarked, “The READ Child-III Project has changed the way we teach our youngest students. It’s essential that this support continues so we can give these children the best possible start in their education.”

By upgrading classrooms, equipping teachers, and involving the community, the project is not only creating brighter futures for children but also strengthening the educational foundation of the entire community. To sustain and build on these improvements, continued support from READ Child Project is crucial. With ongoing resources and training, Shree Bagbhairav Secondary School can further enhance its ECD program, providing more children with the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing and stimulating environment.
