Empowering Dreams: A Child’s Path to Growth in Rural Nepal

In the remote village of Khotor, Konjyosome Ward 2, the story of five-year-old Yangji Ghising proves to be a bud for resilience and growth. Over the past two years, Yangji has attended the Early Childhood Development (ECD) center at Sarashwoti Secondary School, where she has flourished into a curious and enthusiastic learner. Her journey has been marked by challenges, yet she has transformed these obstacles into opportunities with the steadfast support of her family and school community.

When Yangji first joined the ECD program, the adjustment was far from easy. Her shy nature made it difficult to connect with peers, and she often resisted staying in class. However, the unwavering support of the ECD facilitators and the nurturing classroom atmosphere helped her adapt over time. Engaging activities and a patient, child-centered approach encouraged Yangji to embrace learning, turning her initial reluctance into enthusiasm. Today, she actively participates in class, happily engages with her classmates, and takes pride in her growing literacy and numeracy skills, confidently identifying and writing Nepali and English alphabets and counting from 1 to 10.

Yangji’s progress would not have been possible without her family’s dedication to her education. Her elder brother, Samip, a Class 3 student at the same school, plays a crucial role in her journey. Each morning, he walks with Yangji to school, ensuring she has the opportunity to learn despite the long distance from their home. Their parents, while managing their modest household, prioritize their children’s education, demonstrating a commitment that overcomes financial and logistical challenges. Their efforts are further supported by the READ Child Project, which has enhanced ECD classrooms with resources, training for facilitators, and child-friendly learning environments, creating a solid foundation for Yangji’s success.

Yangji’s story underscores the vital role of family, school, and community collaboration in shaping a child’s future. Yangji’s story is not just about her personal growth—it is a testament to what can be achieved when families, schools, and communities work together. Her transformation from a hesitant learner to an eager student highlights the profound impact of a supportive education system. Her parents, despite managing a modest household of four, prioritize their children’s education, reflecting their commitment to their children’s success. This dedication is further supported by initiatives like the READ Child Project, which has enriched ECD classrooms with resources, facilitator training, and child-friendly learning environments. Yangji’s journey epitomizes the transformative impact of a supportive education system, demonstrating that with the right resources and encouragement, every child has the potential to overcome barriers and achieve their dreams.
