Pratigya’s Playful Path: Growing, Learning and Thriving in Early Education

Pratigya Darlami Magar, a cheerful and curious three and half year old girl, lives in approx 3 min walking distance from Shree Gothbhanjyang Secondary School, Konjyosome-3, Dalchoki. Inspired by her elder brother, Prajwal, who had also attended the same Early Childhood Development (ECD) center in the same school for three years, Pratigya was also eager to join the ECD. At first, she was accompanied by his brother to ECD, captivated by her excitement and admiration for him. Eventually, her fondness for the environment and the structured learning space prompted her for her formal enrollment.

Pratigya quickly adapted to the school routine, becoming the youngest and one of the happiest students in the ECD class. Unlike many children her age, who often find the transition from home to school challenging, Pratigya embraced the experience. Her smooth adaptation can be attributed to the well-organized and child-friendly classroom, supported by the ongoing efforts of the READ Child-III project. The classroom features various interactive corners that promote creativity and curiosity. A colorful reading corner invites exploration, a play corner filled with educational toys and puzzles enhances creativity, and the art and craft section allows children to express themselves freely. Additionally, a cozy sleeping corner provides a nurturing space for young learners to thrive.

Learning through play is center of attraction for Pratigya’s experience. The classroom is filled with a variety of learning materials designed to meet the developmental needs of young children. Flashcards featuring letters, numbers, and words help build foundational skills, while interactive charts on body parts, animals, and colors present new concepts in enjoyable and engaging ways. Pratigya particularly enjoys singing, playing games, and solving puzzles. Her enthusiasm for action songs and rhymes boosts her confidence in speaking and language. Furthermore, with the support of her facilitators, she is learning to hold a pencil correctly, draw circles, and trace letters.

The facilitators at the ECD center are essential in fostering Pratigya’s enthusiasm for learning. Their play-based teaching approach—featuring songs, storytelling, and hands-on activities—makes education both enjoyable and effective. They understand that each child is unique, offering personalized attention and encouragement. For Pratigya, the facilitators have been crucial in helping her engage actively in the classroom, even as the youngest member. With their ongoing support, Pratigya is not only getting ready for formal education but also cultivating a lifelong love for learning, paving the way for a bright future full of possibilities.
